Westville Junior Sprints : Results

Spring has finally arrived!! Even though we can’t feel it yet Luckily we have been blessed with our heating and the temperature is never below 27 degrees.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our  swimmers that swam at the South African Short Course Championships, held in Pietermaritzburg.

Our swimmers made Finals and Semi Finals with many achieving best times ever. Well done to Hannah Mclean Lennard who came home with 2 Silver medals. Hannah has now left to study in the USA on a swimming scholarship. Congratulations to Adrian Robinson that competed at the World Long Course Championships in Indiana, USA. Once again Adrian achieved all of his best times ⭐️

We have our TYR Junior SprintsFun Gala taking place on Sunday 17th September at Westville Boys High School. The gala caters for swimmers aged 6 /u to 12 years of age.

We need helpers on the day pretty please.

We need timekeepers, assistance with getting the swimmers at their allocated lanes, medal ladies etc.

This year we would like to appeal to our parents to please volunteer to help us out. Should you be willing to assist please can you let me know, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thought for the month – Elite athletes are working Hard, Fast and Smart daily

Some swimmers believe that they can skate by on their talent alone.

And while this might suffice in younger years, if you are looking to make waves at the top levels of the sport, having blinding levels of talent isn’t enough.

Whenever television commentators talk of Michael Phelps at big meets they endlessly talk about his genetic gifts….

The wingspan. Big hands. Paddles for feet. An innate feel for the water.

But what doesn’t usually get mentioned as often is that Michael Phelps didn't skip a day of training for five years leading up to the Beijing Olympics.

and that he is known for his excellent work ethic.

Ryan Lochte is another athlete who is discussed with a near reverence when it comes to his indescribably advanced feel for the water. And while Lochte may give off the surfer-boy laissez faire vibe to the casual observer, there is no disputing how hard he works in the pool.

You aren't working hard enough.

Thinking that you are training smarter has the intoxicating effect of making you feel like a smarty pants, like you have all the answers, but without real hard work it’s just a bunch of knowledge.

You might be lulled into thinking that because you believe you have a better way it means you don’t need to get down in the trenches and roll your sleeves up.

Success in the water requires hard work. Period.

So ….

When you are ready to step it up…

And get down and dirty with your goals

And set yourself on the path to faster swimming…

Make sure you are Training Fast and Hard
